Some views along Oldham Road / Manchester Road, from Failsworth Pole to Baxter St, Hollinwood. Although the Failsworth end is still largely recognisable, Hollinwood centre was virtually obliterated by the building of the M60 in 1994-5. The impending construction had blighted the area for quite some time, and it was all looking a bit run-down in 1990. At least 3 chapels have been demolished, plus dozens of shops and other businesses. And who remembers going for a pint in the White Swan, the Old Post Office, Hat and Feathers, Kings Arms, the Filho or the "Struggler", once famously managed by Albert Pierrepoint? The last major landmark to go was, of course, the Roxy cinema, which held on until closing its doors in Sep 2005. It was demolished in Feb 2007.
