Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي "Dubai Tower") is a skyscraper under construction in Business Bay district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest structure built by human hands ever built, although it is incomplete. Construction started September 21, 2004 and should be completed and ready for occupation in September 2009. [1] [2] The building is part of the 2 km2 (0.8 inhab.) Development called "Downtown Dubai", the "First Interchange"(aka "Defense Roundabout") along Sheikh Zayed Road at Doha Street. The tower is the architect Adrian Smith [5], who worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) until 2006. [6] The architecture and engineering firm SOM is responsible for the project.
